The Twittersphere blew up this week with many users tweeting about '#TamponTax' after the news that MPs have voted against cutting VAT on female sanitary products as they believe tampons and towels to be 'luxury' items rather than necessities. Uhmmm okay then. Usually I would ignore such a ridiculous opinion like that but it's shocking to discover that 305 MPs voted against scapping the tax, compared to 287, many of whom are women themselves. I could go on an entire rant about this however, there comes a point where after all the outrage you initially feel you just have to make the best of the situation you have and I definitely had a giggle at some of these incredibly accurate tweets made in response to the news... and if anything good has come out of this, I'm definitely pleased that the huge stigma behind talking about periods has been removed slightly!
Petition for MPs to receive their 10% pay increase in the form of tampons, seeing as they're such obvious luxury items. #tampontax

Why don't all of us just stop using luxuries alltogether. We'll all live and bleed freely as one. Or 'paint the town red.' #tampontax— Effi Mai (@EffiMai) October 27, 2015
#tampontax ahhh I've always found tampons such a luxury. Especially those pearl ones, made of real pearls and all that.— Hello Terri Lowe (@HelloTerriLowe) October 27, 2015
Sure, tampons are pure luxury, let me sit on your white leather ministerial car seats without one and let me know what you think #tampontax— Hebba (@countrymousie) October 27, 2015
There are some men in the chamber that cannot even say the word, "Tampon" but can say nuclear deterrent and Syria with no problem #tampontax— Sophia Cannon (@UndercoverMutha) October 26, 2015
As tampons are still a luxury item, I vote we start having them sheathed in silk and hand-inserted by someone else. Go all out. #tampontax— Louise MacGregor (@cutpriceguignol) October 27, 2015
Even I just couldn't resist getting involved...
Proposal for females to just free bleed everywhere and see how long it takes for sanitary products to not be considered a luxury #tampontax— Nina | Lunar Look (@TheNinaJC) October 27, 2015
What's your view on the current #TamponTax? Luxury or essential items?
